27/10/2025 01:17 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- A total of 5,369 houses under the Rumah Sejahtera Housing Programme (PPRS), costing RM112.42 million, have been completed or are being implemented in Sarawak through the Rural People-Friendly Projects (PMR), the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said the housing projects are part of Sarawak’s PMR for 2025, involving a total allocation of RM198.17 million for ongoing and completed initiatives.

She said other projects implemented include the Village Connectivity Road (JPD) initiative with an allocation of RM67 million for 169 projects, the Village-Farm Road initiative (JPD-JL) costing RM13.5 million involving 28 projects, and 18 Social Amenities Programme projects worth RM5.25 million.

“In line with the ministry’s touch-point and people-centric focus, we are committed to ensuring that all rural areas have access to connecting roads and treated clean water to support socio-economic development.

“This is to ensure that no one is left behind in enjoying development,” she said during question time in response to Edwin anak Banta (GPS-Selangau) on the number of rural people-friendly development projects in Sarawak.

For Selangau, Rubiah said four PMR initiatives are being implemented, comprising three JPD projects and one PPRS with a total cost of RM1.9 million.

To a question from Datuk Anyi Ngau (GPS-Baram) regarding former logging roads, Rubiah said the ministry does not have a specific programme for maintaining former logging roads, but added that such roads can be upgraded to Public Works Department (JKR) standards under the Rural Road Programme (JALB).

She said since the 10th Malaysia Plan, a total of 23 projects worth RM1.47 billion have been approved to upgrade former logging roads in rural areas across Sarawak, covering a total length of 536.2 kilometres.

“Of these 23 projects, eight have been completed, 11 are under construction, and four are in the pre-implementation stage.

“Completed former logging roads will be handed over to the state government to be registered as state roads, making them eligible for maintenance under the Malaysian Road Records Information System (MARRIS),” she said.
