Moderate Quake Hits North Sumatra, Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- A moderate 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck North Sumatra, Indonesia, at 7.35 am today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in a statement that the earthquake, with a depth of 10 kilometres, occurred 88 km north of Meulaboh, Indonesia.

However, there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia.

Meanwhile, another moderate earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale was reported to have struck the Minahassa Peninsula in Sulawesi at 9.31 am.

MetMalaysia said the 10-kilometre-deep quake occurred 167 km northwest of Gorontalo, Indonesia, with no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
