Safe Internet Campaign To Expand To 10,000 Schools By next Year

30/10/2025 03:29 PM

RAUB, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- The Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) is expected to be implemented in 10,000 schools nationwide by the middle of the third quarter next year.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the ministry has successfully conducted the campaign in 6,000 schools as of mid-October this year.

“In Pahang, we have covered almost 400 schools, but that is still short of the target. My hope is that by next year, we will have completed visits to all schools, not just in Pahang but across the country,” he told reporters after officiating the state-level Safe Internet Campaign at Sekolah Kebangsaan Raub Indah here today.

Also present were State Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal and Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general Mano Verabathran.

Fahmi said the ministry will appoint Cadet Captain Icons who will help share information on safe internet practices during weekly school assemblies.

“This will include updates on the latest online scams and government policy decisions. For example, the recent decision to limit social media use for individuals under the age of 16,” he said.

He said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will implement the Point of Presence (PoP) project at 170 schools in Pahang to expand broadband connectivity.

“The project has just completed the tender process, and work is scheduled to begin at 170 schools in Pahang in January. Previously, 17 schools were completed under the first phase,” he said.

MCMC is also carrying out WiFi installation programmes at selected schools to ensure better internet access for teachers and students, he added.

“I have also discussed with the Education Minister the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in schools, with priority given to boarding schools in Pahang. This can be done immediately,” he said.
