KUANTAN, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- Kampung Kuala Tahan in Jerantut has been selected as a Kampung Angkat MADANI 2025 (MADANI Adopted Village) by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Peninsular Malaysia (Perhilitan).
In a statement, Perhilitan said the village was chosen for its proximity to Pahang National Park, which boasts rich biodiversity and serves as a key ecotourism destination.
Through the programme, the department said it seeks to foster closer cooperation with the local community by raising awareness of wildlife conservation, reducing human-wildlife conflict, and promoting environmentally friendly activities.
“In addition, the programme aims to encourage local residents to participate in sustainable community-based ecotourism, contribute to community initiatives, and develop basic facilities for mutual benefit,” the statement said.
Nine main projects have been implemented based on the needs of the villagers, including repairing the mosque roof, upgrading the futsal court and fence, and acquiring a hearse along with mosque equipment and furnishings.
The Kampung Angkat MADANI Project handover ceremony was held today at the Kuala Tahan Parking Complex in Jerantut.
Meanwhile, Perhilitan director-general Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim said in the same statement that the programme serves as a platform to strengthen ties between government agencies and the local community.
He said the department is committed to engaging the community in conservation efforts to protect natural treasures for the benefit of future generations.
The Kampung Angkat MADANI Programme is a government initiative aimed at bridging the development gap between urban and rural areas by providing essential basic facilities.
The whole-of-nation approach adopted in the programme allows civil servants from various ministries and agencies to work on the ground, changing the way the government engages with the community.
