KUCHING, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- Sarawak production company, Faradale Media-M Sdn Bhd, has come out with a psychological horror film titled ‘Azimat’ which tells the story of a charm necklace that is said to be able to change a person's bad luck.

The film, directed by Kay Rezza Karim, will be released in cinemas nationwide starting Nov 27, featuring all cast and production crew members from Bumi Kenyalang.

Kay Rezza said Azimat, which began in 2019, has its own uniqueness because it combines local mystical elements with human emotional conflicts that are loaded with symbolism and life messages.

"We are trying to produce a horror story that is not just scary, but also reflects the emotional and spiritual conflicts of a person who is on the verge of despair," he said in a statement here today.

Azimat tells the story of a girl, Hanna, who believes in a charm necklace that is believed to be able to change her bad luck after meeting an Iban shaman.

Interestingly, the film uses three main languages, namely Sarawakian Malay, Iban and English to maintain the authenticity of local culture, in addition to making Kuching the main filming location.

“At the same time, we want to highlight Sarawak not only as a tourist location, but also as a centre for producing quality art works and for that reason, filming was also done around Kuching,” explained Kay Rezza.

He hopes that Azimat will not only entertain the audience, but also convey a message about hope, choices and the consequences of every decision made in life.

The director also shared his experience of facing strange incidents throughout the 37 days of filming, including equipment malfunctions and strange noises that added to the film’s ‘mystical aura’.

“Regardless, filming went smoothly and I consider everything that happened to be a valuable experience and it seemed to ‘bring to life’ the mystical atmosphere of the film in real life,” he said.

Among the actors starring in the film are Dee Dee Aine Peter as Hanna, Heidi Abbyana (Jasmine), Fadzril Afandy (Dr Roger Tiong) and Rushdi Mornie Daud (Encik Bonsu).
