"Breaking The Chains Of Gangsterism" - Tun Hisan's Legacy Of Integrity, Courage - Ayob Khan

01/11/2025 10:16 PM

KUCHING, Nov 1 (Bernama) --  The book “Dato Tun Hisan Bin Tun Hamzah: Breaking the Chains of Gangsterism” is described as a comprehensive and invaluable work, not only for members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) but also as a potential reference for institutions of higher learning, especially in the field of social sciences.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the book, which chronicles the experiences and contributions of former Selangor Police Chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah in combating gang-related activities, offers more than just accounts of police successes.

He said it also highlights the collective efforts of various parties in curbing crime.

“This book is comprehensive and well-written, reflecting Datuk Tun Hisan’s deep experience in tackling the issue of gangsterism.

“It goes beyond policing aspects, also exploring the vital roles of families, educators and the wider community in fostering awareness among youth to steer clear of crime,” he told reporters after the book launch at the Sarawak State Library, here, today.

He said the book serves as a valuable guide for young police officers, offering leadership lessons drawn from Tun Hisan’s exemplary service, including his tenure as Head of the Criminal Investigation Department in Sarawak and the Selangor police chief.

According to Ayob Khan, Tun Hisan’s leadership qualities, firmness, integrity, vision and courage to challenge norms should be emulated by all PDRM personnel as these align with the government’s emphasis, under  Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on integrity, good governance and anti-corruption efforts.

“If we can nurture police officers who are strong in integrity and governance, I am confident PDRM will remain on the right track in fulfilling the trust placed in us,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tun Hisan, in his speech, said that the book was not intended to highlight individual achievements, but rather to document a collective struggle to restore peace and public confidence, particularly in Sarawak.

“Breaking the Chains of Gangsterism” represents far more than enforcement operations. It embodies a collective struggle, the unity of the police, government agencies, community leaders and ordinary citizens who refused to surrender their streets to fear.

“The victories achieved were never the result of one man or one operation alone. They were born of shared courage and common purpose,”  said Tun Hisan, who also served as special advisor for the guidebook.

He emphasised that crime prevention requires a holistic approach that combines enforcement, education and empathy towards the community.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the National Book Development Foundation, Tan Sri Dr Abdul Latiff Abu Bakar, unveiled the book, which is authored by Leonard Sabu.

The publication is a collective effort between Ya Ying Charity Organisation and the National Book Foundation, with full support from PDRM, Yayasan Generasi Malaysia, Yayasan Pengawasan Jenayah Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak.
