1,000 A2 Dairy Cows Arrive In Pasir Gudang, Boost Jemaluang Dairy Valley Operations

PASIR GUDANG, Nov 1 (Bernama) -- A total of 1,000 A2 Jersey Friesian dairy cows from Victoria, Australia, arrived at Pasir Gudang Port today, marking the launch of large-scale dairy industry development at Jemaluang Dairy Valley (JDV) in Mersing.

State Agriculture, Agro-Based Industry and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Zahari Sarip said the arrival of the first batch of livestock marks the project as the largest of its kind in Johor to date, while also establishing the state’s first integrated modern dairy hub.

He added that most of the cows are pregnant and expected to calve within three to six months, effectively doubling the herd before milk production commences.

“An A2 dairy cow can yield an average of 35 litres of milk per session, with two to three sessions daily, far surpassing the output of local cows,” he said during a visit to Pasir Gudang Port today.

The project, a joint initiative between the Johor government, the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC), and JDV Sdn Bhd, involves an investment of around RM80 million. It aims to produce three million litres of milk in the first year, rising to four to five million litres in the second year, and reaching 12 million litres annually within five years.

Zahari stated that the project is expected to cut the country’s reliance on imported milk by up to 20 per cent.

“The project, which commenced in 2022 and was handed over to the operator in September 2025, also has the potential to become a key agrotourism attraction in Mersing when it opens to the public in the third quarter of 2026,” he added.
