Govt Prioritises Four Key Industrial Subsectors To Drive Pahang’s Growth - Anwar

02/11/2025 06:22 PM

KUANTAN, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- The government is giving strategic focus to the development of four key industrial subsectors in Pahang, namely the chemical and petrochemical industry, automotive, heavy and medium industries, and food manufacturing to drive the state’s economic growth.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the emphasis on these sectors will be implemented through various master plans and initiatives that have been or will be launched.

“For example, under the Chemical and Petrochemical subsector, the Chemical Industry Roadmap 2030 (CIR2030) outlines aspirations to drive the development of the chemical and chemical products industry towards a competitive, high-technology and sustainable industrial ecosystem,” he said.

The prime minister said this in his speech at a meet-and-greet session with Kuantan industry players held at the Department of Human Resources’ Advanced Technology Training Centre (ADTEC JTM) Kuantan campus here today.

His speech was read by Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. Also present were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Ahmad Farhan Fauzi, and senior state government leaders.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the chemical and chemical products sector is among the top five products with the highest trade value within the manufacturing sector, representing 12.15 per cent of the country’s total trade as of June 2025.

He said that as of September, Pahang had recorded total investments worth RM17.43 billion, surpassing this year’s target of RM14.09 billion and creating more than 11,000 job opportunities.

On the issue of water supply in the Gebeng Industrial Area, the prime minister said the Federal Government has implemented a long-term solution through the construction of a seawater treatment plant in Pantai Gebeng in collaboration with the state government.

“The project began under the 12th Malaysia Plan and will continue under the 13th Malaysia Plan, implemented through the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation.

“This is proof of the government’s commitment to ensuring that the business environment in Gebeng remains competitive without disruptions to basic utilities and logistics,” he said, adding that the area is strategically located next to Kuantan Port.

He also expressed appreciation to the Gebeng Industrial Support Group (GISG), comprising industry workers, for its active role as a key liaison between the Gebeng industrial community and government agencies.

“The close cooperation between the government, industry players, companies and workers ensures that local issues, particularly those involving infrastructure, utilities and logistics operations, can be addressed promptly, thereby creating a productive and harmonious working environment,” he said.
