MELAKA, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- The Atomic Energy Licensing (Amendment) Bill 2025, passed by the Dewan Negara in August, is expected to bring a positive impact to the industry and the development of atomic energy technology in the country.
Department of Atomic Energy Malaysia (Atom Malaysia) director-general Noraishah Pungut said the Bill is also expected to enhance investor confidence and attract more new investments in the sector, thereby creating more job opportunities for Malaysians.
“With the amendments to the Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984, investors will have greater confidence in the safety, security and regulatory control of atomic energy activities in the country.
“Furthermore, the extension of the licence validity period from three years to up to 40 years will enable industries and investors to plan their investments more efficiently,” she told reporters here today.
She said that to date, Atom Malaysia regulates a total of 1,700 licensees involved in handling nuclear materials or apparatus nationwide.
The amendments aim to strengthen and improve enforcement for a more comprehensive nuclear legal framework encompassing aspects of safety, security and regulatory control, in line with the latest developments in atomic energy technology.
