Flood Situation Improves In Kedah, Perak As Evacuees Numbers Drop

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Kedah and Perak continues to improve as the number of evacuees at temporary relief centres steadily decreases tonight.

In KEDAH, the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) reported that the number of flood victims has dropped to 221 people from 49 families, down from 259 people from 60 families this morning.

Those affected in the Pendang district remain sheltered at the Tanah Merah Sports Complex Hall, while the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tunku Intan Shafinaz, which had opened since Oct 27, was officially closed at 4 pm today after all evacuees were allowed to return home.

In PERAK, the JPBN Secretariat reported a similar decline in the number of evacuees.

The relief centre at Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai, Manjung, now houses 107 people from 28 families, down from 124 people from 33 families this morning.

These evacuees, from Kampung Padang Serai, have been at the centre since Oct 23, as floodwaters in the area have yet to fully subside.

Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) has issued a warning regarding the water levels at Sungai Kinta in Kinta district, which remain above normal. The current water level stands at 248.02 metres, exceeding the normal threshold of 243.5 metres.
