Eight Hikers Stranded At Bukit Larut After Three Sustain Injuries

IPOH, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Eight individuals were stranded at the Bukit Larut Resort in Taiping after three of them sustained injuries during a hiking activity yesterday.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) acting assistant director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said of the three female injured hikers, two suffered leg cramps while another sustained a sprained ankle.

The remaining five hikers — three women and two men — were uninjured.

He said a team from the Taiping Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene, located about four kilometres away, after receiving an emergency call at 6.53 pm.

“On arrival, seven victims were found at the top of the hill, while a male hiker had descended to the foothill to seek help.

“The operation commander applied the LAST (Locate, Access, Stabilise and Transport) concept and instructed firefighters, together with police and Bukit Larut management personnel, to proceed uphill to carry out the rescue operation,” he said in a statement today.

Shazlean said rescuers located all the victims midway down from the reported site, assisted by a civilian who acted as a guide.

He said the woman with the sprained ankle received initial treatment at the scene before all victims were brought down to the foothill.
