KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail was today briefed by representatives of the Advance Passenger Screening System (APSS) operator on the first phase of its implementation, which began on Oct 31.
In a Facebook post, Saifuddin Nasution said 10 airlines were involved in the first phase of APSS implementation to test the system’s effectiveness before passengers arrive at the country’s international entry points.
“This effort is part of the Home Ministry’s (KDN) ongoing commitment to strengthening border control through smarter and more proactive technology to safeguard national security and sovereignty, and in line with international standards,” he said.
The APSS, implemented by KDN, aims to strengthen immigration control by screening passenger information before their arrival in the country.
It enables the authorities to identify high-risk individuals early and take proactive measures to enhance national security.
Earlier media reports said the first phase of the APSS implementation involves 10 major international airlines, including Malaysia Airlines (MAS), VietJet Air (Vietnam), Emirates (United Arab Emirates), Scoot (Singapore) and US-Bangla Airlines (Bangladesh).
The system, which will be expanded to all international airlines in March next year, complies with United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions and global safety standards, including those set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
