MGS 2025 A Platform To Highlight Creativity Of Local Designers -- Armizan

PENAMPANG, Nov 8 (Bernama) — The organisation of My Gaya Sabah (MGS) 2025 serves as an important platform to showcase the creativity works of local designers, while strengthening the ecosystem of the local fashion industry to become more competitive, said Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

He said the programme also provides opportunities for local designers in Sabah to network with designers from Peninsular Malaysia who are also participating, thereby expanding the market reach of fashion products across the region.

“The local fashion industry has great potential for rapid growth. The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) estimates the potential of the textile and apparel industry at around USD3.5 billion (RM14.6 billion)) annually and is projected to grow to USD4.47 billion (RM18.67 billion) by 2030.

“Meanwhile, in the context of Sabah which is known for its thriving tourism sector, the local fashion industry is seen as highly promising to be developed as an attraction for local and international tourists,” he said.

He said this in a statement after MGS 2025 was officiated by Toh Puan Faridah Tussin at the International Technology Commercial Centre (ITCC) here today.

Commenting further, Armizan said the main highlight of MGS 2025 is a fashion show on the runway featuring 10 local brands, including six designers from Sabah who incorporate the cultural heritage and identity of Sabah into their own designs.

“Apart from the fashion show, other highlights are the 15 exhibition booths and sales, inspirational forums and talks from invited panels with experience in the fashion, textile and entrepreneurship industries," he said.

He said his ministry also remained committed to strengthening the Buy Malaysia Campaign (KBBM) as a strategic platform to enhance the capabilities and competitiveness of local industries.

"Through KBBM, the ministry is focusing on stimulating domestic economic growth more sustainably while also boosting confidence in the quality of local products.

"Aligned with this agenda, various initiatives across economic sectors are being mobilised to ensure KBBM remains relevant and inclusive. Among the sectors being reinforced under the KBBM agenda is the local fashion industry," he said.
