Malaysian Scouts To Expand Community-Based Programme To Borneo Next Year

MELAKA, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- The Scouts Association of Malaysia plans to expand its community-based scouting programme to Borneo next year, said Chief Scout Maj Gen (Rtd) Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Zin Bidin.

He said the move aims to provide opportunities for children and teenagers who are unable to join the movement at the school level, as some institutions currently cap the number of students allowed to participate.

“Through this approach, students who cannot join the school-based scouts can participate at the community level instead.

“They will undergo structured training and modules that enable them to earn badges before being commissioned as King’s Scouts,” he told reporters after attending the Scouts Association of Malaysia Investiture Ceremony 2025 here today.

A total of 569 individuals, including 12 international representatives, received awards and honours at the ceremony officiated by Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam.

National Scouts Council vice-president Datuk Zamani Tambichek topped the list of recipients and was awarded the Star of the Paddy Spirit (Silver), followed by Deputy National Chief Commissioner Ahmad Sabri Saad, who also received the association’s second-highest award.

Dr Mohd Zin said scouting activities nurture leadership, discipline and character among young people through the positive values instilled in the movement.

He added that these values help prevent participants from engaging in unhealthy activities such as bullying, as they are taught to uphold moral integrity from a young age.
