09/11/2025 06:14 PM

PASIR MAS, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- The Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) has disbursed over RM10 million in benefits to more than 2,000 contributors in Kelantan between January and October this year.

Kelantan Perkeso director Nora Yaacob said the amount covered various protection schemes, including invalidity benefits, dependents’ benefits, funeral management benefits, survivors’ pension, morbid allowance and other forms of assistance.

She said the initiative demonstrates Perkeso’s continuous commitment to safeguarding the welfare of contributors and their dependents in the event of accidents or loss of income.

“Perkeso offers a wide range of contribution schemes that not only benefit contributors but also protect their families in the event of an accident or fatalities.

“As of October, more than RM10 million has been distributed under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Lindung Pekerja) and the Housewives’ Social Security Act 2022 (Lindung Kasih),” she told reporters at Kampung Nibong, Lemal here today.

Earlier, Nora presented a survivors’ pension and Kotak Prihatin Perkeso aid package to Hasliza Hasbullah, 51, the widow of the late Salmi Awang, 56, a cement mixer truck driver who died of a heart attack in an accident on Oct 22 at Jalan Perempuan Zainab 2, Kubang Kerian.

The family received RM3,000 in funeral management benefits and a monthly survivors’ pension of RM1,500.42, payable for life or until their children reach 21 years old.

Nora said the assistance would help ease the financial burden of the widow and her four school-going children, and urged employers to register their workers with Perkeso to ensure their welfare is protected in the event of an accident or loss of income.

Meanwhile, Hasliza said she was thankful upon learning that her late husband had been a Perkeso contributor, which entitled her and their children to receive the survivors’ pension.

“These benefits have given me some relief and the means to continue providing for my children’s education as a single mother,” she said.
