Work On 4.95km Stretch Of LTB In Miri To Begin In First Quarter Of 2026 - Nanta

11/11/2025 04:00 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- The construction of the 4.95-kilometre (km) stretch of the Trans Borneo Highway (LTB) project is expected to commence in the first quarter of next year, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the stretch covers the Jalan Kuala Baram By-Pass in Miri from Sungai Baram to the Miri Industrial Training Institute, adding that the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) is in the tendering process.

He said the project aims to enhance the road's infrastructure level and strengthen the land transport network in Sarawak's northern region.

"Meanwhile, maintenance work on another 9.7km stretch of the highway, which is part of the Redline alignment, implemented by a concessionaire for Federal roads, began on June 1.

"The highway heading towards Kuala Baram was originally a state road, but was later changed to a Federal road given its role as the main link between Malaysia and Brunei,” he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was replying to a question from Chiew Choon Man (PH-Miri) regarding government efforts to repair and upgrade parts of Jalan Kuala Baram By-Pass Miri, which is in bad condition.

Nanta said that for the Redline alignment, the Works Ministry (KKR) is striving to carry out improvements on the deteriorating road structures, which have been affected by the increasing number of vehicles, including heavy vehicles and those carrying excessive loads.

"Seeing that this road is the main link between the two countries, efforts to upgrade it are vital to ensuring safety, comfort and smooth traffic flow for road users.

"Under the Routine Maintenance Work job scope, the appointed concessionaire must conduct routine inspection patrols of federal roads at least twice a week so that, if there are any issues, such as potholes, then remedial action must be taken within 24 hours,” he said.

He said that the concessionaire would be penalised if action is not taken within that time frame.
