Saudi Arabia Prioritises Safety, Health In Extra Haj Quota - Mohd Na’im

12/11/2025 06:22 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- The safety and health of haj pilgrims are the primary considerations for the Saudi Arabian government when approving additional haj quotas, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.

He said Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Haj and Umrah, Dr Tawfiq Fawzan Al-Rabiah, had conveyed this during a recent official meeting to discuss various aspects of haj management, including Malaysia’s request for an additional quota of pilgrims.

“I conveyed our request for an increased quota for Malaysia. However, the Saudi government stated that safety and health factors would be reviewed first, as they do not want overcrowding, particularly since haj and umrah fall during the summer, which can increase the risk of fatalities,” he said.

Mohd Na’im spoke to reporters after launching the fardu ain guidance class for the hearing-impaired here today.

He added that if Saudi Arabia decides to grant an additional haj quota, Malaysia would be given priority based on its efficiency in haj management and the high level of discipline demonstrated by Malaysian pilgrims.
