IPOH, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Kruit, Sungkai, near Tanjong Malim has been selected as the Malaysian Nuclear Agency’s (Nuklear Malaysia) Sekolah Angkat MADANI.

The school’s handover ceremony was officiated today by Nuklear Malaysia director-general Dr Muhammad Rawi Mohamed Zin.

In his speech, Dr Muhammad Rawi said SMK Sungai Kruit was chosen for its strong commitment to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and the active participation of both students and teachers in a variety of science and innovation activities.

“Located in a rural area, the school reflects Nuklear Malaysia’s commitment to expanding STEM education. It is hoped that it will serve as a community centre for science learning and social innovation, fostering a scientifically literate and creative society,” he said.

He added that RM100,000 had been allocated to upgrade the school hall’s flooring and instal a loudspeaker system.

Muhammad Rawi said the initiative was not just about upgrading facilities but also aimed at fostering a conducive learning environment for both students and school staff.

He said it also reflected Nuklear Malaysia’s commitment to supporting the National Education Policy and the National Nuclear Technology Policy 2030, which emphasises the responsible, ethical and high-impact application of nuclear science and technology for society.

“The implementation of this programme is also in line with the aspirations of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to popularise science, humanise technology and mainstream innovation, while supporting the MADANI government’s agenda to strengthen human development through inclusive, science-based education,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nuklear Malaysia said in a statement that the STEM Carnival was held at the school today, bringing together more than 500 students from the Muallim, Batang Padang and Kinta Selatan districts.

The carnival aims to provide students with exposure to the STEM field, in line with efforts to cultivate a generation of scientifically literate, critical-thinking and highly innovative individuals capable of contributing to national development through science and technology.

The event featured several interesting activities, including a robotics exhibition and the STEM Explorace competition, which involved students from the participating schools.

Since 1972, Nuklear Malaysia has carried out various outreach programmes to raise public awareness of nuclear science and technology through three main initiatives, namely the NEO@Schools Programme, Nuclear Nexus@Community, and Explore@Nuclear.

Through the Sekolah Angkat MADANI Programme and the STEM Carnival, Nuklear Malaysia aims to enhance STEM and nuclear knowledge at the grassroots level, in line with the government’s efforts to promote educational development and community well-being under the Malaysia MADANI concept.
