KAPIT, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- The Native Customary Rights (NCR) land is an important asset that must be protected and not sold for short-term gain, Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said.
NCR land is a family’s legacy that should be developed to generate income and raise the well-being of communities, he added.
“I would like to remind recipients, don’t sell the land given. After going through the measuring process and obtaining legal ownership rights, put the land to good use for long-term development,” he said at the title deed presentation for Kapit Division here today, where 245 title deeds were given to 156 recipients from the areas of Sungai Ibau, Sungai Belawai and Sungai Menuan, Batang Rajang.
He also urged land owners to make full use of government assistance, including programmes under the Sarawak Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Ministry, as well as various economic initiatives meant to help NCR settlers to boost their produce.
The Kapit MP also reminded the public not to be influenced by parties trying to politicise the NCR issue as such programmes were the government’s continuous efforts for over a decade in giving legal assurance to land owners.
“The NCR land issue is often turned into political capital by some parties. Don’t let us be influenced by narratives that put the government’s efforts in bad light. Facts show that this programme really is running and benefits the people,” he stressed.
Since the introduction of the NCR Land Measuring programme in 2010, the government has been implementing it systematically in two stages - the measuring of perimeters and gazettement, followed by measuring individual lots and issuing land titles.
As of Oct 31, 2025, the Sarawak Land and Survey Department has measured over 1.22 million hectares of NCR land perimeters in the state, with 947,000 hectares gazetted, and 106,467 individual lots have been measured and land titles issued for 34,507 lots.
