He said Malaysia’s vision of “Inclusivity for an Equitable Future” reflects this commitment, emphasising that digital inclusion is a right, not a privilege.

"Whether through digital-skills programmes, accessible infrastructure, or community-based innovation, we are committed to building a future where no one is left behind," he said.

He was speaking at Malaysia's lunch reception in conjunction with the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (WTDC-25), here today.

Noting that the event is more than a shared meal, he said it is a moment to celebrate collective journey in advancing digital inclusion, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainable development.

"Together, we continue to prove that when nations collaborate, connectivity becomes a catalyst for opportunity and progress," he added.

Fahmi said Malaysia is proud to be a long-standing partner of the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) and is honoured to serve as a member of the ITU Council for the 2023–2026 term.

"Looking ahead, Malaysia is pleased to announce our candidature for re-election to the ITU Council for the 2027–2030 term.

"Guided by our theme Inclusivity for an Equitable Future,” Malaysia humbly seeks the valuable support of all member states to continue contributing meaningfully to ITU’s mission," he said.

The event was attended by ITU secretary-general Doreen Bogdan-Martin and ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau director Dr Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava.

Also present were the senior adviser on International Affairs to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Tan Sri Mohd Annuar Zaini, Malaysian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ahmad Kamrizamil Mohd Riza, MCMC deputy managing director Datuk Zulkarnain Mohd Yasin and secretary of the Communications Technology Division, Communications Ministry, Ahmad Norhad Zahari.

In her remarks at the event, Bogdan-Martin commended Malaysia's policy on building a digital future, emphasising universal connectivity, digital trust, online safety, and digital skills.

"Minister (Fahmi) in your policy statement, I think you made it very clear that to build a digital future where everyone is connected, included and safe anywhere, that is the vision that we have to be striving for.

"You have also pledged to promote universal and affordable connectivity through collaboration, to strengthen digital trust and cyber security, to advance capacity building digital skills so important, and of course, to deepen that regional and multi-stakeholder cooperation for an inclusive digital economy," she said.

She also praised the NADI Digital Inclusive Project by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), which was crowned as the winner of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Award 2025 in July, noting that it is an incredible project connecting Malaysia's remote areas with high-speed internet and digital skills training opportunities.
