19 Mini Depots To Boost Flood Preparedness In Kelantan

20/11/2025 06:11 PM

KOTA BHARU, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- A total of 19 mini depots for storing relief goods have begun operating throughout the Kelantan sub-districts, supported by 180 forward bases established this year, as part of the state government's efforts to strengthen preparedness for the monsoon season.

This move is aimed at ensuring that basic supplies at all temporary relief centres (PPS) are at an optimum level and that aid deliveries are not disrupted when floods occur.

State Women, Family and Welfare Development Committee chairman Datuk Rohani Ibrahim said the number of forward bases had increased compared to 160 locations last year to ensure uninterrupted supply deliveries.

He said the process of delivering supplies to all locations had begun a month ago and was now fully completed, including stocks of wet and dry food, retort food, sugar, salt, blankets and basic necessities to meet the needs of flood victims at any time.

"The total allocation channelled through the Social Welfare Department (JKM) for flood preparations this year has reached RM3 million, covering the provision of food, basic equipment and logistical support at PPS throughout Kelantan," he told reporters after officiating the Special Incentive Presentation Ceremony for Private Daycare Centres 2025 at the State Operations Room, Kota Darulnaim Complex here, today.

Rohani said at the state level there is one main large depot, while at the sub-district level, mini-depots in the form of containers function to accommodate emergency supplies and supply front bases near PPS.

"We have learned from last year's experience. For problem areas, we have improved management involving lists of staff, typhoid injections for PPS cooks, as well as the arrangement of volunteers including 10 to 15 kitchen staff placed at each PPS with incentive provided by the state government," he said.

He added that the state government has also provided alternative routes in high-risk areas, including Kalbok 5, Rantau Panjang and the opening of temporary access in Tanah Merah, to ensure that supply deliveries continue if the main road is cut off.
