KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has spent RM27.66 million out of the total RM28.05 million allocated for the rehabilitation of abandoned private housing projects this year.
Deputy Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said that for 2026, a total of RM25.84 million has been allocated to KPKT to rehabilitate nine abandoned private housing projects.
“The rehabilitation of these abandoned projects typically takes between one and five years, depending on the complexity and uniqueness of their respective issues.
“The implementation of this rehabilitation work will involve the appointment of implementing agencies from state housing boards as well as consultants who will complete the projects up to the point of obtaining the certificate of completion and compliance,” she said when winding up debate on Supply Bill (Budget) 2026 for her ministry in the Dewan Rakyat today.
She said the criteria allowed for utilising government funds to repair abandoned private projects include affordable housing priced at RM300,000 and below, buyers having purchased more than 50 per cent of licensed units, and the physical progress of a project exceeding 70 per cent.
On strengthening the Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS), Aiman Athirah said KPKT through the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia continues efforts to improve the needs of the force, including raising the financial assistance grant from RM3,000 to RM5,000 for each active PBS unit this year.
She said RM3 million has also been allocated for repairs and maintenance of PBS stations nationwide, the provision of personal protective equipment totalling RM627,000, and the phased distribution of 50 vehicles from 2024 to 2026.
For next year, Aiman Athirah said an additional allocation of RM2.1 million has been approved to enhance PBS operations, covering equipment purchases, supplies, and the provision of training and courses.
The Dewan Rakyat subsequently approved the operating and development expenditure totalling RM6,088,856,500 for the ministry under Budget 2026, with the majority voice in favour.
