“The HKM 2025 awards ceremony will be held during the Malaysian Journalism Night, scheduled for mid-June 2026,” MPI said.

All outstanding works produced throughout 2025 will be evaluated by a panel of professional judges with extensive experience in journalism and editorial work.

As the most prestigious journalism awards in the country, HKM continues to serve as an important platform for showcasing high-quality, credible works that contribute significantly to society and Malaysia’s media industry.

“Entries that feature investigative elements, uncover new facts, and present reports capable of making an impact on society are highly welcomed,” the statement said.

Entering its 45th edition since its inception in 1980, this year’s awards feature 23 categories, with total prizes worth RM450,000, fully sponsored by PETRONAS.

“HKM 2025 emphasises works that are rich in research value, meticulous in fact verification, strong in contextual analysis, and creative in visual presentation, including infographics and fresh, visionary digital storytelling approaches,” MPI said.

In the same statement, MPI chief executive officer Dr Ainol Amriz Ismail said HKM is more than just a competition, it is the highest platform to honour journalistic integrity, courage, and professionalism.

“MPI hopes to see entries that truly reflect the expertise, critical thinking, and intellectual courage of media practitioners in examining various national issues.

“HKM evaluates works that matter to society, those that demonstrate solid research, informative depth, and offer new perspectives. We seek works that make an impact, open minds, and spark change,” he added, noting that HKM remains a stage for journalists to showcase their finest work.
