KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 (Bernama) -- The Director-General of the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, has been appointed as the new Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications, effective Monday (Nov 24).
The appointment was announced by Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN), Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, in a statement today.
"It is with great pleasure that I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah on his appointment as the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications, effective Nov 24, 2025," he said.
Shamsul Azri said that with Abdul Halim's extensive leadership experience and excellent service record, he is capable of strengthening service delivery and continuing to contribute to the well-being and prosperity of the nation.
Abdul Halim, 54, is a Bachelor of Law graduate from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
He has served in the public sector for nearly 30 years, starting as an Assistant Director at the Implementation Coordination Unit, Prime Minister's Department (JPM).
Before assuming the position of NADMA Director-General on June 9, he also held the position of Senior Deputy Secretary-General (Finance & Development) at the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) in 2023.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Shamsul Azri also announced the appointment of the Deputy Secretary-General (Development) of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, Meor Ismail Meor Akim, as the Director-General of NADMA, replacing Abdul Halim, effective the same date.
Meor Ismail, 56, is a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) graduate from Universiti Malaya and has served in the public sector for over 31 years, beginning as an Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Finance.
According to the statement, he previously held the position of Deputy State Secretary (Development) of Perak in 2019 and later served as the Deputy Director-General (Operations Implementation) of NADMA in 2021.
"With his vast experience across various fields encompassing the Federal and State levels, I am confident and believe that he will lead NADMA with full dedication.
"This appointment ensures the nation's capability to strengthen a disaster management system that is more efficient, integrated, and responsive," he said.
