JOHANNESBURG, Nov 21 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and China’s Premier Li Qiang had a brief encounter at the Sandton Convention Centre, where the G20 Leaders Summit is currently taking place.
Both leaders are attending the summit, with China participating as a G20 member, while Anwar is present as a guest of the G20 Presidency under South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa.
The invitation to the summit, which runs from Nov 22 to 23, was extended to the Prime Minister in Malaysia’s capacity as ASEAN Chair for 2025.
Both leaders had a quick cordial chat before heading to respective engagements.
The members of the G20 are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, the African Union and the European Union.
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, is accompanied by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Zaliha Mustafa, Malaysian government officials, as well as a business delegation.
Anwar arrived here on Thursday for a four-day working visit, marking the second country of his three-nation tour of the African continent.
