22/11/2025 10:58 PM

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has commended Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for rescheduling its convocation to allow students to return home to vote in the 17th Sabah State Election, polling for which is on Nov 29.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the decision is in line with the government’s commitment to ensuring that students’ voting rights are not compromised.

“The university has agreed to adjust the convocation date. Although there were differing views at the outset, the matter was eventually settled,” he told reporters here today.

He said the move has eased the concerns of students who were torn between academic obligations and their duty to vote, noting that 60 per cent of UMS students are from Sabah.

The university has rescheduled its convocation one day later to Nov 30.
