KUANTAN, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- Tourism activities in Tasik Chini, Pekan have not been affected even though the main resort in the area has not yet resumed operations, said Pahang Unity, Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Leong Yu Man.
She said the Pahang Government Secretariat Corporation (PSK) is still in the process of securing investors to reopen the resort in Tasik Chini.
"The tourism area has not been affected even though the resort has not yet opened, because there is a Tasik Chini Research Centre which offers accommodation, camping, boating and kayaking facilities and has received a good response.
"I understand that the Research Centre is fully booked almost every weekend and they also offer Orang Asli, Tasik Chini and forest exploration packages," she said at the Pahang State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang here today.
She was replying to a question by Datuk Mohd Sharim Md Zain (BN-Chini) who wanted to know whether the state government intended to reopen the resort at Tasik Chini.
Meanwhile, Leong, when answering a question by Datuk Mohd Sofian Abd Jalil (PN-Luit) said the state government had formulated a policy and strategic plan to make the location a sustainable tourism destination based on community (community-based tourism).
Besides, all mining activities in Tasik Chini have stopped and no new licenses have been issued since 2019 and the area remains a Permanent Forest Reserve.
She said that the Tasik Chini Management Plan will be implemented in an integrated manner involving 18 agencies and four Orang Asli villages and in addition to involving aspects of ecosystem conservation implemented through forest and lake restoration programmes, including with the State Forestry Department.
