Media Practitioners - The Driving Force Behind Dissemination Of Information - MAIWP

09/12/2025 03:43 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9  (Bernama) -- Media practitioners play a crucial role as the driving force behind the dissemination of accurate and impactful information on zakat management, asnaf welfare and various community-based initiatives undertaken by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP).

MAIWP Chairman Datuk Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer said the strategic partnership between the council and the media represents a shared responsibility in building a more prosperous and compassionate society.

He said consistent support from the media has strengthened public confidence in MAIWP’s efforts to promote social development, particularly for the asnaf community.

“Every news report, feature, documentary and inspirational story produced has helped shape public understanding of our work in managing zakat, delivering social assistance, developing the asnaf and implementing broader welfare programmes.

“You are the communication bridge between MAIWP and the community, ensuring that our messages reach the public accurately, sincerely and effectively,” he said at the 2025 MAIWP with the Media Appreciation and Friendly Gathering last night.

Also present were Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Commercial Manager Mastura Hassan.

The event was held to honour media practitioners as a gesture of appreciation for their continued support in strengthening MAIWP’s outreach to the public.

A total of 10 media organisations received certificates of appreciation, including Bernama, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Astro, TV AlHijrah, Sinar Harian (Karangkraf Media Group), MalaysiaGazette, Media Prima, Media Mulia, IKIMfm and the Broadcasting Division of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM).

Meanwhile, Syed Kamarulzaman also highlighted the achievements of “Projek Bangkit”, a reality programme that supports and elevates MAIWP entrepreneurs, in which the grand prize winner received a RM50,000 grant from MAIWP and RM1 million worth of advertising sponsorship from TV AlHijrah.

He said the programme is one of MAIWP’s key initiatives to empower the poor, and its success would not have been possible without the dedication of participants and the support of strategic partners, including the media.

“The strategic partnership between MAIWP and the media is not merely a professional collaboration, but a shared commitment to building a harmonious and progressive society. With continued support from our media partners, I am confident that even more success stories can be showcased.

“More people will come to understand the importance of zakat and MAIWP’s role, enabling more asnaf to receive support and the opportunity to rebuild their lives,” he said.
