Melaka JBPM To Expand Use Of Vacuum Device For Bees, Wasp Operations

09/12/2025 04:50 PM

MELAKA, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- The Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM)  plans to expand the use of the innovative BRV 2025 (Bee Rescue Vacuum) tool in responding to bee and wasp complaints, replacing the practice of burning or using insecticides.

Melaka JBPM director Mohd Zaidi Ma’at said the use of the BRV tool, developed by the Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), allows bees to be safely vacuumed and relocated.

“This suction system reduces risks to firefighters and residents, while supporting environmental conservation by allowing bees to be moved to safer areas or handed over to beekeepers.

“The innovation has also been registered with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) and will be introduced statewide.

“Further improvements are being made through research collaboration with Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM),” he said after the Monthly Assembly at the Melaka JBPM headquarters in Bukit Katil here today.

Mohd Zaidi added that the BRV tool, produced by the Aria group from the Ayer Keroh BBP, was recently named champion at the 2025 Innovative and Creative Group (KIK) Primer Competition during JBPM Innovation Week in Kedah from Nov 23-25.

He said the win reflects the department’s success in producing an innovative, high-impact tool that brings clear benefits to JBPM.

“This achievement shows that Melaka JBPM excels not only in operations but also in innovation, technology, creativity, and communication,” he said.

He also thanked Melaka JBPM personnel for their strong performance in the 2025 Five-Star Rating Audit, where the department earned four stars.

“This is very encouraging, as only two states achieved five stars, and Melaka JBPM is among seven states awarded four stars.

“It reflects the commitment, discipline, and hard work of all officers and staff in maintaining high standards in management, operations, and safety. We hope this success motivates us to aim for even higher ratings in the future,” he added.
