KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- While the flood situation in Perak continues to improve, with fewer victims evacuated, the opposite is happening in northern Sarawak, as more people are affected compared to last night.
In PERAK, the flood situation in Hilir Perak and Manjung eased slightly, with 141 people from 42 families sheltering at three temporary relief centres as of this morning, compared to 147 people from 43 families last night.
The Perak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Secretariat said the Hilir Perak district recorded a total of 117 victims from 35 families, while Manjung had 24 evacuees from seven families.
Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) said that the Slim River is at the alert level of 25.11 metres (m) compared to the normal level of 23.50m.
In SARAWAK, four relief centres remained open in northern Sarawak, with the number of evacuees rising to 191 people as of 8 am today, compared to 130 victims last night.
According to the Sarawak SMDC Secretariat, the Dewan Bulan Sabit Merah centre in Miri is housing 36 evacuees, including four victims from the Kampung Lusut Jaya Taman Tungku landslide incident; the SK Kampung Angus centre (13 victims); SK Suai Niah centre (89 victims); and Dewan Suarah Bintulu centre (54 victims).
