KOTA BHARU, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- Phase 2 of the Sungai Golok Integrated River Basin Development Project (PLSB) is now in the procurement stage, said Kelantan Department of Irrigation and Drainage director Dr Siti Fairus Zakaria.
She said an open pre-qualification tender for the design-and-build package is currently underway, with the Letter of Acceptance expected to be issued in the first quarter of 2026.
According to her, the project scope covers the construction of a 20-kilometre flood embankment along the left bank of Sungai Lemal-Lanchang.
She added the main components also include a dual-function wall stretching 42.5 kilometres from Kampung Lanchang to Sungai Ayer Lanas, crossing the districts of Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, and Jeli.
“The dual-function wall is designed as a flood-protection barrier integrated with security features to strengthen border control on the Malaysia-Thailand border.
“Its construction is expected to enhance flood-mitigation efforts along the Sungai Golok stretch, reducing the risk of overflow that often affects nearby settlements,” she told Bernama today.
