KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) recorded over 1.54 million passenger journeys on its rail and bus services on Dec 31, 2025, marking the highest figure in the history of Rapid KL and Rapid Penang.

Prasarana president and  group chief executive officer Amir Hamdan said the figure represented a 0.76 per cent increase compared with the same period last year.

“The efficiency of coordination and crowd control management, driven by about 3,000 Rapid KL frontline personnel in the Klang Valley, ensured rail and bus users enjoyed smooth, safe and comfortable journeys throughout the celebrations.

“The effectiveness of on-ground operational coordination enabled Rapid KL services to operate smoothly despite a surge in passenger numbers at several New Year celebration hotspots,” he said in a statement today.

According to the statement, rail services recorded 1.29 million passengers on the day, while bus services, including Rapid On-Demand (ROD), recorded 251,737 passengers.

For rail services, the figures comprised the Kelana Jaya Line (321,381 passengers), Ampang/Sri Petaling Line (246,885), Monorail (90,748), Kajang Line (396,141), and Putrajaya Line (234,158).

The number of passengers using bus services, including ROD, comprised 183,944 on Rapid KL, 48,002 on Rapid Penang and 19,791 on the Sunway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).

“The success in managing this large-scale operation proves the level of preparedness and professionalism of Rapid KL personnel in ensuring public transport services are managed effectively, safely and comfortably even under challenging operational conditions,” he said.

He said strategic cooperation with the Royal Malaysia Police in managing traffic flow and enforcing bus lanes helped ensure bus services operated according to schedule, despite severe congestion around the city centre.

In addition, comprehensive coordination among Prasarana’s Auxiliary Police Force, event organisers and security teams at major shopping malls also played an important role in managing passenger flow and ensuring public safety remained at an optimum level, he added.
