SIBU, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- The Customs Department (Customs) Sarikei branch seized undeclared cigarettes and liquor worth a total of RM7.29 million during a raid on a house here last month.
Sarawak Customs director Datuk Norizan Yahya said the seizure involved 6,766,400 sticks of cigarettes and 89,416.80 litres of various brands of liquor suspected to have been stored without customs approval.
“The raid was conducted at about 9.15 pm on Dec 19, 2025, based on intelligence gathered by headquarters and carried out by a team from the Land Operations Unit of the Sarikei Customs Enforcement Division,” he said in a statement today.
He said inspections at the premises in Lorong Rantau Panjang Jaya 3H here uncovered goods suspected to be undeclared and prohibited items under the Customs (Prohibition of Imports) Order 2023.
The value of the seized cigarettes and liquor is estimated at RM1,209,043.20, while the total import duty and tax involved is estimated at RM6,079,411.85.
He said the case is still under investigation, with the modus operandi believed to involve storing undeclared cigarettes and liquor at residential premises to evade detection by the authorities.
The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for storing or possessing undeclared or prohibited goods.
