Sabah Fully Recovers From Flood, Sarawak Records Drop In Evacuees

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Sabah has fully recovered with the last relief centre in the state closed at 4 pm today,  while in Sarawak, there have been positive developments with the number of victims continuing to record a decline.

According to the Sabah Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, the Slagon Permanent Evacuation Centre (PPK) and the relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Sri Dayang Shahbandar in Padas Damit in Beaufort have been closed, after all the 366 victims from 138 families, who were reported at the two centres this morning, returned to their respective homes.

Meanwhile, Beaufort District Officer Mohd Nazri Ajun, who is the District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) chairman, declared the end of the flood disaster in the district.

In SARAWAK, the number of flood victims recorded a decline, with 1,822 people from 587 families still at three PPS in the state, compared to 3,111 victims from 962 families this morning.

The victims are at 13 PPS in Serian, Sibu, Bintulu, Sebauh and Miri.

According to the Sarawak JPBN,  among the PPS that housed the highest number of victims are Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanah Puteh in Serian, with 448 victims from 131 families, followed by Dewan Masyarakat Serian (325 victims from 94 families) and Dewan Suarah Bintulu (306 victims from 114 families).
