KUALA NERUS, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) has established the Rakan Akrab (AKRAB) programme to foster a supportive working environment and enhance the overall well-being of its staff.
UniSZA registrar Muzafar Mohd Din said the programme is part of the university’s efforts to cultivate a harmonious, inclusive and more resilient work culture among its 2,000 employees, in line with current public service aspirations.
He said as a start, 30 individuals have been appointed as AKRAB partners to provide assistance and guidance to UniSZA staff who require emotional, psychological and other related support.
“AKRAB was established as an intermediary platform to foster peer assistance among colleagues in each department.
“It is grounded in basic counselling principles and mentoring skills, while also encouraging the sharing of knowledge, moral values, volunteerism and empathy among AKRAB partners and members of the organisation,” he said in a statement today.
Muzafar said among the services provided are individual or group coaching sessions, psychological screening conducted via assessment tools, as well as counselling programmes based on identified needs.
He expressed hope that the establishment of AKRAB would create a more structured and effective support system to safeguard the mental and emotional well-being of UniSZA’s community.
