20/01/2026 03:03 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) has allocated RM116.22 million to support talent development initiatives in Johor, focusing on training and skills financing to strengthen workforce employability and the state’s employment ecosystem.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the allocation includes RM61 million in education loans from the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK) for more than 2,300 students enrolled in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.

“This is in line with efforts to expand inclusive and targeted access to skills training, particularly in high-impact fields such as artificial intelligence, electric vehicles and semiconductors, which support the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) ecosystem,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He said RM20 million has also been allocated under the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) Special Fund to support the implementation of the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC).

In addition, RM13.02 million from HRD Corp levy funds will be utilised for technical training, while RM18.8 million has been set aside for the Industrial Training Scheme to enhance the employability of the local workforce.

Meanwhile, RM1.4 million has been channelled through TalentCorp for the implementation of the MyMahir Programme, and RM2 million allocated by the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) for the organisation of career fairs and the strengthening of the MyFutureJobs portal.

Onn Hafiz said this following a meeting with Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan and Deputy Minister Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan on Jan 15 to discuss coordination and the talent development agenda.

He said the meeting was also timely, in line with the surge in investments under the JS-SEZ and the establishment of the JTDC as a platform to coordinate Johor’s talent needs.

“The main focus is to ensure Johor has a sufficient supply of skilled and relevant talent,” he said, expressing hope that continued cooperation with the federal government would boost investment inflows, job opportunities and incomes.
