PUTRAJAYA, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- Members of the public are allowed to apply for a physical printout of a Malaysian Driving License (LMM) without submitting proof of overseas travel starting tomorrow.
The Ministry of Transport (MOT) in a statement today announced that the decision was made based on feedback received from Malaysians who want to travel and need a physical printout of their LMM to drive abroad.
Based on existing regulations, drivers can apply for a physical LMM card by showing proof of leaving the country such as a flight ticket.
"As a measure to reduce bureaucracy, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has been instructed to no longer ask for proof of leaving the country," the statement said.
According to MOT, physical prints of LMM can be applied at all JPJ counters as well as the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) nationwide and a printing fee of RM20 will be charged for citizens while non-citizens will have to pay RM100.
MOT informed that senior citizens aged 60 and above, Class A and A1 license holders and Disabled Persons card holders registered with the Department of Social Welfare can continue to obtain physical LMM prints for free.
"Drivers who choose the LLM digital card will continue to be able to access a free digital driving card which can be renewed via the MyJPJ application without having to go to any office," according to the statement.
Meanwhile, MOT informed that since the digital LMM policy was introduced in February 2023, the number of users of the MyJPJ Application has reached 13 million so far, reflecting the widespread acceptance by the public of the initiative.
"This trend is very encouraging and indicates that users have begun to adapt to the digital concept as a more convenient option, where LMM can be renewed online via the MyJPJ application and issued without having to go to the JPJ office," according to MOT.
