KOTA BHARU, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- The Agro MADANI Sales Carnival in Kelantan has proven to be a catalyst for boosting entrepreneurs’ income, with profits increasing by as much as threefold compared with regular sales.

Briyani rice trader Mohd Yusri Mohd Ali, 43, said the carnival not only provided a wider marketing platform for local agro-based products, it also attracted many visitors from various segments of society.

“Alhamdulillah, my profit over the four days of the carnival exceeded RM12,000, and I am targeting even higher earnings.

“I also feel fortunate to be able to sell and introduce my family’s briyani rice from Batu Pahat, Johor, to Kelantanese. Among the bestsellers are the mutton briyani priced at RM20 and lamb shank briyani at RM55,” he told Bernama when met at the Tunjong Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) here today.

Meanwhile, a nasi ulam trader from Perlis, Suzana Hamid, 36, said she would not miss the opportunity to participate in any programme organised by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) as it has opened up income-generating opportunities for her.

“The nasi ulam I sell is mixed with 21 types of herbs such as bebuas leaves, kemangi (lemon basil), cekur manis (sweet leaf), and mengkudu (noni leaf), in addition to fish floss, ginger, galangal, and coconut, mixed with rice.

“The demand in Kelantan has been very encouraging as my sales have reached my target. I am grateful that many customers enjoy my nasi ulam, which is sold at RM7,” said Suzana, a fourth-generation custodian of her family’s traditional recipe.

Visitor Bezini Ahmad, 68, said carnivals of this nature serve as a strategic platform to strengthen marketing channels, enhance the competitiveness of local products, and stimulate the economy of the local community.

The four-day carnival, which began on Wednesday (Jan 21), featured various attractions to draw visitors from all walks of life.

Among the main highlights was the MADANI Special Combo Sales, offering basic necessity packages such as eggs, chicken, meat, vegetables, tempeh and bamboo shoots priced as low as RM5 to RM10.

The carnival also featured five main clusters comprising the Popular and Viral Food Cluster, Fresh Produce, Agro-Based Industry, and Floriculture cluster, as well as exhibitions by government departments and agencies.
