KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Lumpur Girl Guides (KLGG) today hosted the Teddy Bear Party 2026, with about 2,000 members joining in celebration of friendship, unity, and global sisterhood, marking 100 years of World Thinking Day and 110 years of KLGG.
Held in two sessions, the event gathered Girl Guides, Rangers, Clovers, Guild members, Brownies and Fireflies, alongside commissioners, executive council members and invited guests, reflecting the global reach of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), which has 11.2 million members worldwide.
KLGG said in a statement that among those present were its president and chief commissioner of the Girl Guides Association Malaysia (GGAM) Datuk Yeoh Soo Keng, GGAM Kuala Lumpur Branch Patron Beh Suat Pheng, representatives from the Kuala Lumpur Education Department and international guests.
The opening ceremony featured a march-in of flags, the singing of Negaraku as well as the renewal of the Girl Guides Promise led by Queen Guide 2025 Kashwini Eswaran Dinesh, symbolising unity across generations and cultures.
In her address, Yeoh highlighted the importance of friendship as a foundation for trust, solidarity and collective action, noting that the centenary of World Thinking Day underscores the enduring bonds within the global Guiding movement.
“Every campfire shared, every badge earned, every challenge faced together strengthens the bonds that unite us as a movement. Our friendships shape who we are - and they give us the strength to create change in our communities and beyond,” she said.
The celebration also featured World Thinking Day activities, quizzes, friendship-building games, Action Song and Yell competitions, as well as the traditional Teddy Bear Party activities, culminating in prize-giving ceremonies.
KLGG said the event reaffirmed its commitment to empowering girls and young women through leadership development, community service and international friendship, in line with the values and global mission of WAGGGS.
