KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- Hip Hop Tamizha Live: The Showdown, held at Merdeka Stadium on Jan 17, drew an estimated 30,000 fans and marked the first Indian concert in Malaysia to feature a full-scale drone show.
Organised by Don’t Run Away Asia, the large-scale outdoor concert featured the Chennai-based hip hop duo Hip Hop Tamizha, comprising Adhi, whose full name is Adhithya Ramachandran Venkatapathy, and R Jeeva, who are widely regarded as pioneers of Tamil hip hop for their role in bringing the genre into mainstream Indian music.
Don’t Run Away Asia said staging the concert at Stadium Merdeka followed the success of its earlier indoor productions, with the latest show designed to deliver a larger open-air experience supported by high-end production and visual elements.
“After the success of our indoor concerts, we wanted to elevate the experience further. Bringing Hip Hop Tamizha to Stadium Merdeka with a full outdoor production and a drone show for the first time in an Indian concert was a bold step,” the organiser said in a statement today.
The concert featured production support from India-based event production company Media Mason, while sound engineering and technical execution were handled by Sound Innovations Malaysia.
The event combined high-energy performances, large-format visuals and coordinated drone choreography, setting a new benchmark for Indian live entertainment productions in Malaysia, they said.
Merdeka Stadium, as one of Malaysia’s most iconic landmarks, added historical significance to the event, which also highlighted cross-border cultural collaboration between the Indian and Malaysian entertainment industries, Don’t Run Away Asia said, and that the concert reflected Malaysia’s growing stature as a regional hub for large-scale international concerts.
Hip Hop Tamizha first gained prominence through independent Tamil hip hop releases before achieving mainstream success in the Indian film industry, with Adhi later expanding into film direction and acting, including directing and starring in the 2017 Tamil film Meesaya Murukku, contributing to the duo’s broad appeal across music and cinema audiences.
