IPOH, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- Gua Tempurung or Tempurung Cave, one of Perak’s iconic tourism assets, is set to be developed into an international eco-adventure hub with the signing of a 21-year concession agreement between Majuperak Holdings Berhad (MHB) and the Kampar District Council (MDK).
MHB chairman Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak said the agreement involves 32.1 hectares to facilitate a more structured, safe and sustainable management and development of the ecotourism site.
He said this is a strategic move by the state government to strengthen Perak’s position as a leading tourism destination at both domestic and international levels.
“The development of Gua Tempurung seeks to balance the preservation of its geological heritage and cave ecosystem with economic activities.
“This will be carried out through an ‘inside-outside’ approach, with the cave interior preserved and external areas activated in a controlled manner.
“External development will include adventure activities such as a mountain bike circuit, world-class rock climbing facilities in line with International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) standards, luxury glamping, and international-standard tourism support facilities,” Redza told reporters after the signing ceremony of the concession agreement between MHB and MDK at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building here today.
Also present to witness the signing were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, MHB group chief executive officer Muhammad Yazurin Sallij Muhammad Yasin and MDK president Ahmad Zuqairy Alias.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Yazurin Sallij said MHB will develop Gua Tempurung in phases guided by a master plan, with initial emphasis on site safety.
“The first phase, encompassing the first year of development, will focus on preparing a master plan and undertaking safety studies and assessments by accredited consultants.
“During the same period, a development concept similar to Tasik Cermin will be adopted, with Gua Tempurung positioned as the main icon, alongside the organisation of tourism activities in the external areas of the cave to attract visitors,” he said.
He said a joint committee with MDK and other stakeholders will also be established to ensure proper checks and balances in site management.
“The development of Gua Tempurung will be carried out in three phases, starting with the preparation of a master plan, physical development, and initiatives to elevate the destination to world-class status,” he said, adding that the project’s investment value has yet to be determined.
