MBS Told To Review Senawang Aidilfitri Bazaar Operating Hours

28/01/2026 06:14 PM

SEREMBAN, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- The Negeri Sembilan government has called on the Seremban City Council (MBS) to review the operating hours of the Dataran Senawang Aidilfitri Bazaar to ensure the comfort of all parties and allow Muslims ample time to perform their acts of worship during Ramadan.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the bazaar’s operating hours, set from 6 pm till midnight, were considered unsuitable, as shoppers would typically visit after performing Tarawih prayers.

“The state government believes that the operating hours should be reviewed to allow people, after breaking fast, to perform Maghrib, Isyak, and Tarawih prayers before going to the bazaar or doing business.

“Although Tarawih prayers are not compulsory, the state government encourages them to be performed in congregation, as they are only observed once a year during Ramadan. Let us perform our acts of worship first, then continue with other activities,” he told reporters after chairing the State Executive Council meeting here today.

Aminuddin said the Dataran Senawang bazaar attracted not only local residents but also visitors from other districts and neighbouring states.

Earlier, posts circulating on social media showed that some traders were unhappy with the operating hours set by MBS, with fines of up to RM350 per hour reportedly to be imposed on those who exceed the permitted time.

Meanwhile, the Sikamat assemblyman conveyed his condolences to the family of a child who died after being left in a car along Jalan Tunku Hassan here yesterday.

“I hope incidents like this do not occur again. This was not a deliberate mistake, and we urge everyone to exercise caution. Let this incident serve as a lesson,” he said.

Seremban district police chief ACP Azahar Abdul Rahim reportedly said the police received a MERS 999 call at about 6.15 pm regarding the two-year-old boy’s death.

Preliminary investigations showed that he had been left in a Proton Saga by his 35-year-old mother at 8 am when she went to work at a nearby bank.

Azahar said the victim’s mother had allegedly forgotten to drop her child at daycare and only realised what had happened around 5 pm when she finished work.
