TUMPAT, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- More than 51,000 recipients of assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) in Kelantan are currently active, said state director Che Samsuzuki Che Noh.
He said the figure covers eight assistance schemes, including aid for children and senior citizens, involving an allocation of RM282 million last year.
“Among the largest groups of aid recipients in Kelantan are recipients of allowances for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) who are employed, as well as assistance for PWDs who are unable to work.
“The JKM assistance is cumulative in nature, while cases removed from the list of recipients involve those who have surpassed the poverty line or have passed away,” he said after a town hall programme with staff of the Tumpat Social Welfare Department office and local community leaders, here, today.
Elaborating further, Che Samsuzuki said that, last year alone, the department received nearly 20,000 new applications, with an average of about 1,500 to 1,600 applicants per district.
“These new applications must first go through several procedures in accordance with the stipulated conditions and will be assessed by the department officers.
“The districts with the highest number of aid recipients in the state are Kota Bharu, Tumpat and Pasir Mas,” he said.
