KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Terengganu has inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Batik Air to implement the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) Part 66 Category A1 Licensed Aircraft Technician Programme, a highly skilled human capital development initiative that provides accredited training and employment opportunities in the aviation industry.
Yayasan Terengganu director Ahmad Farhan Abdul Wahab said the initiative took off with the approval of an education loan for 10 Terengganu students to pursue the programme, which began on Nov 3, 2025.
"They will serve as the early benchmark on the effectiveness of this collaborative model. Priority is given to applicants who meet Yayasan Terengganu's general terms, including criteria like being Terengganu-born, from the B40 group, and having passed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination (with a minimum of Grade C in Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics and Science).
"In addition, they must also pass the interview and psychometric tests,” he said at the signing of the agreement at Wisma Darul Iman here today, which was witnessed by Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
Ahmad Farhan and Terengganu Education, Higher Education, Science, Technology and Human Capital Development Committee chairman Ahmad Shah Muhamed represented Yayasan Terengganu in signing the MoA, while Batik Air was represented by Engineering and Maintenance Division director Lam Hon Kee and Engineering Training Division manager Fahmi Ismail.
Ahmad Farhan said Yayasan Terengganu and Batik Air aim to build a more organised career pathway for those from Terengganu to pursue basic licensed training and progress to the field of aircraft maintenance.
"This will then contribute to the development of a workforce ecosystem that is highly-skilled and competitive in the country's aerospace sector,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said that through the same effort, Batik Air remains committed to providing a comprehensive technical training module to produce Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) and Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs).
"We are taking Terengganu's younger generation into the high-technology sector and will not only train them for aircraft maintenance certificates and licences, but also provide them with a career. With Batik Air's rapid growth, demands for engineers and technicians will be crucial.
"We want to see those from Terengganu at the forefront of airports globally, thus ensuring aircraft safety and smooth operations of the country's aviation industry,” he said.
