Chief Secretary Outlines Four Priorities To Strengthen Public Service Delivery

07/02/2026 07:52 PM

BANGI, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- The emphasis on integrity-based values and governance, as well as the swift and high-impact implementation of programmes, are among four main priorities outlined to strengthen public service delivery.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the other two key focus areas are the digitalisation of public services and the strengthening of communication at all levels.

“The first focus is on values and governance, which involves issues related to integrity.

“The second relates to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call for programmes to be implemented quickly under the mantra of ‘fast execution and impactful results’,” he told a media conference after the 2026 Retreat of Ministry Secretaries-General and Heads of Service (KSUKP) here today.

Also present were Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz and Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican.

Shamsul Azri said the outcomes of the KSUKP retreat would be presented to the Cabinet, particularly on measures that need to be implemented within the public service.

“As civil servants, we will continue to provide the best possible service to the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the prime minister, who also attended the retreat, emphasised a whole-of-government approach and rejected silo-based working culture.

“We cannot work in silos. We must work as one team. The Prime Minister is confident in the commitment and dedication shown by civil servants in realising the aspirations of the people,” he said.

Shamsul Azri added that the Prime Minister also stressed the importance of unity and rejected narrow racial issues.

“We must set aside trivial matters and focus on developing the people and ensuring their well-being,” he said.
