Traffic Slow Moving On Major Expressways As Of 1.30pm Today

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Traffic on several major highways nationwide was reported to be slow-moving and experiencing delays as of 1.30 pm today, following the final day of the 50 per cent toll discount in conjunction with the 2026 Chinese New Year celebration announced by the government on Feb 7.

A spokesperson for the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), when contacted by Bernama, said weather conditions were favourable, but traffic volume had increased significantly along key routes.

“On the North-South Expressway (PLUS) route E1, northbound traffic is moving slowly from Sungkai to Bidor and from Tapah to Gopeng.

“For PLUS route E2, northbound traffic is moving slowly from Senai to Kulai, Seremban to Bandar Ainsdale and after the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza towards the city centre, while southbound traffic is congested from Nilai to the Seremban Rest and Treatment (RnR) area and from Senawang to Pedas Linggi,” he said.

He added that traffic along the Johor Causeway was also reported to be slow northbound, from the Woodlands Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Singapore towards the Sultan Iskandar Building in Johor Bahru.

“Meanwhile, on the Kuala Lumpur–Karak Highway, eastbound traffic is moving slowly from after the Gombak Toll Plaza to the Genting Sempah Tunnel,” he said.

The LLM has advised motorists to remain fully attentive while driving, maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead and stay alert for any obstacles along their route.

Road users are also reminded to signal in advance before changing lanes to help prevent accidents and ensure smoother traffic flow.

The latest traffic updates can be obtained via the hotline 1-800-88-7752 (7 am to 10 pm), the official LLM Info Trafik WhatsApp channel, TikTok @llmtrafik, the Malaysian Highway Authority Facebook page, as well as the TUJU and MYJalan applications.

The government has agreed to implement a 50 per cent toll discount in conjunction with the 2026 Chinese New Year celebration, involving financial implications of approximately RM19.5 million as compensation to highway concessionaires.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the decision was approved by the Cabinet as part of the government’s efforts to foster unity and safeguard the well-being of Malaysians of all races and religions.

He said the toll discount was effective from 12.01 am on Feb 14 until 11.59 pm on Feb 15.
