IPOH, Feb 24 (Bernama)  -- The name of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) continues to be carved on the international stage as four of its students have been selected to serve as imams for the Qari in Residence Programme in the United Kingdom (UK), Australia, and Singapore throughout this Ramadan.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr. Md Amin Md Taff said the selection of these students for the programme, which runs from Feb 16 to March 21, proves UPSI's ability to produce high-quality tahfiz students who receive recognition from international Islamic institutions.

He said the students involved are Adib Farhan Baharudin, a Bachelor of Tahfiz al-Quran and Qiraat with Education student from the Faculty of Human Sciences (FSK), who was selected to be an imam at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OXCIS), United Kingdom.

Additionally, Ahmad Al Mustafa Mohd Azmi is serving as an imam at Malaysian Hall Perth, Australia, while Wan Muhammad Irsyad Wan Zulkifli and Muhd Farhan Hakimi Khairul Aizam are serving at Masjid al-Ghufran, Singapore.

Meanwhile, instructor and UPSI Tahfiz Association Advisor, Ah-Luqman Al-Hakim Che’ Zahari from the FSK Institute of Tahfiz Research and Education and Islamic Turath, has also been entrusted to serve as an imam at Masjid Dar al-Iman and Malaysian Hall Sydney, Australia.

“This is a recognition that not only makes UPSI proud but also demonstrates the great potential of local educational institutions in contributing to the development of Quranic knowledge at a global level.

“It is also in line with the university's aspiration to produce holistic human capital who are not only academically excellent but also capable of being ambassadors of knowledge, character, and Islamic values,” he said in a statement today.

In the meantime, Md Amin said UPSI is currently in the process of constructing the Institute of Tahfiz Education and Islamic Turath (Al-Furqan), which will become a research center for various matters focusing on tahfiz education in the country.

He said the institute, which is being built on a 7.2-hectare site at the Sultan Azlan Shah Campus, Proton City, Tanjong Malim, will use a curriculum that integrates the "pondok" system and the mainstream education system.
