Aaron Calls For Immediate End To Hateful Content Online

25/02/2026 02:23 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- All parties have been urged to immediately stop the spread of hateful and irresponsible content on any social media platform, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

He said the government will not compromise on issues involving religious and racial sensitivities.

“I take seriously the spread of content on social media through an account belonging to a student of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) that touches on religious issues and insults Islam, to the extent that it has the potential to threaten public harmony.

“Religion should never be trivialised or used as a tool for provocation, as such actions constitute an offence and can spark tension in a plural society,” he said in a statement today.

Aaron added that the country’s religious diversity is an asset that must be safeguarded, not exploited for certain interests.

“I have been informed that investigations are currently underway and firm action will be taken against any student found guilty of any disciplinary offence under the Universities and University Colleges (Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah) (Student Discipline) Regulations 2024.

“At the same time, the police, through the Pahang contingent police headquarters, are also conducting investigations into the individual involved in accordance with the applicable laws,” he said.

He added that the Ministry of National Unity remains committed to ensuring that harmony among races and religions in the country is continuously preserved.

“I urge Malaysians to act maturely, exercise prudence when using social media, and always uphold the values of respect and tolerance for the sake of peace,” he said.

Earlier, the media reported that a student from UMPSA was arrested by police early this morning for allegedly uploading and spreading content touching on issues related to religion, race, and the royal institution (3R) on social media.

Since yesterday, provocative content has gone viral on social media, including content insulting Prophet Muhammad.
