Gov't Stresses No Compromise On Desecration Of The Quran

03/03/2026 06:34 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- The government has stressed that it will not compromise on any form of insult against Islam, particularly those involving the holy book, the Quran.

Senior press secretary to the Prime Minister Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said the government views seriously the spread of malicious slander, baseless accusations, and false references deliberately circulated by irresponsible parties.

“These actions are clearly intended to tarnish the government’s efforts and disrupt public order by conflating different issues.

“Regarding the issue of the desecration of the Quran involving a university student, the MADANI Government would like to, once again, stress that the individual was arrested by the police on Feb 25, a day after the incident became public knowledge. Immediate action was taken, and the individual was charged in court today,” he said during the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) daily briefing, which was streamed live on Anwar Ibrahim’s and PMO Malaysia’s Facebook pages today.

He added that the country is governed based on the rule of law, as emphasised by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and that true justice requires a transparent legal process rather than punishment without due consideration.

In this regard, he urged the public to refer to authentic sources before disseminating information, refrain from using social media to spread unfounded allegations, and allow the legal process to proceed fairly.

“Do not exploit the sanctity of religion for partisan political interests,” he said.

Tunku Nashrul also said that the MADANI Government prays for the acceptance and ease of Muslims’ fasting, and remains committed to strengthening the nation’s prosperity.
