JOHOR BAHRU, March 5 (Bernama) -- Johor Police have finalised security and coordination plans for the 2026 Chingay Parade, which runs from tomorrow until March 10.
Johor Police Chief CP Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the festival, organised by the Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association with support from the Johor Bahru chapters of Hainan Association, Kwong Siew Wai Kuan Association, Hokkien Huay Kuan Association and Teochew Eight Districts Association, will culminate on March 9 at the Muhibbah Stage, KOMTAR JBCC.
He said this year’s parade will feature 23 lion and dragon dance troupes and 88 decorated floats. About 200,000 visitors are expected, with online viewership projected to reach one million.
“The parade route will pass three mosques and a surau in the city centre. As the event falls during Ramadan, Johor police have taken religious and cultural sensitivities into account to preserve harmony and public order,” he said in a statement.
Ab Rahaman said key measures include noise control, coordinated scheduling and strict adherence to the approved route to ensure that Muslim worship during Ramadan is not disrupted, while allowing the Chinese community’s cultural celebrations to proceed smoothly.
He said police readiness is deemed sufficient, with comprehensive security and traffic management plans in place to safeguard public safety and ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the programme.
Ab Rahaman stressed that police would not tolerate provocation, actions threatening public order, or inflammatory and racist content on social media.
“Firm action will be taken against anyone attempting to incite tension or disrupt interfaith and interracial harmony, in accordance with existing laws.
“Members of the public are advised to follow official instructions and plan their journeys in advance to avoid congestion during the celebrations,” he added.
